Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a phone conversation with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah, on Friday.
Zarif warned that the United States will be held accountable for the consequences of any adventurism in the region, a statement posted on the website of the Foreign Ministry said.
He pointed to the US suspicious moves in the region, stressing that the Islamic Republic does not seek war but will openly and clearly defend its people and security.
The two top diplomats also exchanged views on latest issues concerning bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the statement.
Tensions have risen between Iran and the US ahead of the first anniversary of the assassination of Iran’s top general, Qasem Soleimani.
In the latest escalation on Wednesday, US Air Force B-52 bombers flew nonstop from the United States to the Persian Gulf in “a show of force” that US military officials said was intended to caution Iran.
Announcing the deployment, the US Central Command said it was to show that “we are ready and able to respond to any aggression directed at Americans or our interests”.
