A foreign ministry official decried the recent brutal killing of a Jordanian pilot and the beheading of two Japanese nationals by the self-declared Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, calling on the Middle East governments to help weaken the militants.

“The countries in the region should consider these growing inhumane acts as a serious alarm bell for the region’s security and stability and block the routes used for the strengthening of terrorists in certain regional countries,” Press TV quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian as saying on Thursday.

He added that the January terrorist attack in France and the recent gruesome killing of the Jordanian pilot by IS were products of the wrong policy of using terrorism as a tool in Iraq, Syria and the entire Middle East region.

“We should acknowledge that security is an overarching issue; you cannot destabilize Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and then expect security in the region,” he said.
