The head of the Iran-Malaysia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mehdi Zahedi, and Malaysian Parliament Speaker Pandigar Amin Mulia called for expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various fields of mutual interest in a meeting on late Wednesday.     

Touching on the connections between the two Muslim nations, Zahedi said, "Regarding a positive record of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Malaysia and the religious and cultural similarities between the two nations, the ground is prepared to promote cooperation on issues of mutual interest."

The lawmaker highlighted the role of parliamentary friendship groups in promoting cordial relations among nations and said, "The parliamentary friendship groups of Iran and Malaysia have did their utmost to facilitate and reinforce the friendly relations between the two states."  

He referred to the actions of the terrorists operating in the region and said, "The US has created and reinforced the terrorist groups to achieve its colonialist and authoritarian objectives in the region, which should be stemmed through cooperation and consultations between Muslim states."

The Malaysian official, for his part, expressed satisfaction with his visit to Tehran, adding, "The Malaysian parliament welcomes greater parliamentary cooperation with Iran."

He referred to the issue of terrorism facing the region and said, "Terrorist groups are the product of the political theories of world powers and have nothing to do with Islam."
