Health Minister Saeed Namaki on Monday said infections are set to peak once again during winter and urged against toleration of Covid-19 protocol violations.
“We are going to face a winter peak like the rest of the world,” Namaki was quoted as saying by IRNA. “Do not indulge anyone at this stage!”
The minister was especially concerned about southern provinces where chilly weather is expected in winter months.
“As it gets colder, people will go to their homes, close the door and the windows, and that will increase transmission rates,” he said.
The top health official called for stricter rules and greater oversight to counter illusions of normality after a decline in the number of overnight deaths.
“After nearly a month, Iran’s daily death toll fell below 400 for three straight days, which could trigger complacency among the general public,” Namaki has warned for the second day in a row.
Adherence to safety guidelines is on the rise throughout the country after the government imposed stringent measures to stem the spread of a third wave of infections.
The minister also announced they will provide the underclass with space for self-quarantine using hotel rooms, as officials focus on the outskirts of towns as the main epicenters of the deadly virus.
“We should not insist on home isolation for workers who live in small spaces with a lot of people,” he said.
Over the past 10 days, SARS-CoV-2 has even killed youths and infected 557 people every hour. On average, 330 have recovered from the respiratory illness per hour.

Covid-19 Deaths Below 400

Daily deaths remained below 400 for the third straight day, as coronavirus restrictions imposed last month began to yield results, data collected by the Health Ministry showed.
“Deaths of a further 371 coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours have taken the national toll to 48,246,” the spokeswoman of Health Ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, said on Monday.
The health official also reported some 13,300 new infections, less than 20% of whom required hospitalization. The new cases pushed the tally to over 962,000.
Despite the restrictive measures, 27 of Iran’s 31 provinces are still on red alert.
“More than 688,000 have recovered from the infectious disease while 5,852 are in serious condition,” Lari said.
Iran has carried out 6.12 million diagnostic tests since the start of the deadly outbreak in Iran in February.
Worldwide coronavirus cases rose past 63.2 million on Monday and the death toll reached 1.46 million.
