Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, the special representative of Iranian foreign minister, held talks with the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar in Kabul on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Taherian reiterated Iran’s support for Afghan peace talks in Afghanistan, highlighting the country’s efforts to create a regional and global consensus in support of the process, ISNA reported.
He described the support of regional and other countries for the current peace talks as “important and fundamental”, while presenting an overview of his recent talks with counterparts from different countries.
Atmar appreciated the sincere and fraternal support of Iran for the government and people of Afghanistan in various fields.
He also discussed impediments to the peace negotiations currently underway between the Afghan government and the Taliban insurgents in Doha, Qatar, and its effects on the Afghanistan 2020 conference, a ministerial pledging event scheduled for 23–24 November in Geneva, Switzerland.
Strengthening bilateral cooperation by convening an economic commission between the two countries, signing a comprehensive document on bilateral cooperation and the launch of Khaf-Herat railroad was another topic discussed by Taherian and Atmar.
