Daily Covid Cases Cross 10,000

The daily tally of coronavirus infections set a new record for the third time over the past six days, this time taking the number of cases over 10,400, as the government begins to impose a night curfew on nonessential businesses to curb the pandemic. 
“The record number of cases took the national count to 692,949,” the spokeswoman for the Health Ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Starting Tuesday, nonessential businesses will close at 6 p.m. for the duration of one month in all 31 provincial capitals, as authorities scramble to curb the viral transmission. 
While category three and four places of business, including gyms, beauty salons, cultural centers and coffee shops, have remained shuttered for weeks, the National Coronavirus Taskforce’s new restriction bans category two jobs from offering services beyond 6 p.m. 
Toy stores, furniture stores, shopping centers, candy stores, ice-cream shops, real-estate agencies, tailor shops, ateliers, fabric stores, cosmetic stores and stationery stores are among a long list of non-essential businesses that are ordered to close in the evening until the next morning.
“The closure of these centers will reduce movement in the city of Tehran,” an official with Tehran’s Police, Nader Moradi, said. “This can slow the spread of the disease and halt it.”
The Health Ministry reported 458 more fatalities on Monday, taking the total death toll to 38,749, Lari said. 

Gov’t to Restrict Movement in Tehran

Tehran Governor-General Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpey told ISNA that the National Coronavirus Taskforce is considering imposing a night-time curfew on people’s movement in the capital.
Pointing out that some European nations have prohibited movement at night to prevent public gatherings and parties, Bandpey said, “The ban on movements would be enforced at 9 p.m.”
According to the official, the proposal has been discussed at the National Coronavirus Taskforce and the timing for its enforcement is to be decided by the head of operations, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, also the government’s interior minister. 
Alireza Raeisi, the taskforce’s spokesman, also said they are weighing up the consequences of a curfew on the movement of personal vehicles at night but they have not approved the plan as of Monday afternoon. 
Lari said over 525,000 have recovered from the infectious disease and 5,560 are hospitalized in intensive care units. 
Iran has carried out 5.26 million coronavirus tests since the virus was spotted in the holy city of Qom, the outbreak’s first epicenter in the country.
Coronavirus cases across the world crossed 50.8 million on Monday and fatalities rose to 1.26 million.
