Rouhani Commends Iranians for Resisting US Economic Terrorism

President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday expressed his gratitude to the Iranian people for its “significant and unique” resistance and patience over the past three years in the face of the United States’ economic terrorism.
He hoped that the new US administration will learn a lesson from this three-year experience, respect the rule of law and return to all its obligations, “so that the dear Iranian people will see and feel the reward of their patience and resistance”, President.ir reported.   
Iran has been subjected to the toughest American sanctions since 2018 when Washington unilaterally pulled out of the multinational 2015 nuclear deal. The pressure was aimed at destroying the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the formal name of the agreement, so that Iranian leaders agree to enter fresh negotiations over a more comprehensive deal. 
Tehran has refused to engage in talks with the US until all sanctions are removed. It has maintained that any negotiation could only take place within the framework of the JCPOA Joint Commission.  
The president said Iran’s decision has always been clear. 
“The Iranian nation will continue its resistance and patience, until the opposite side respects laws and regulations,” he said.   
Rouhani hoped that those sanctioning Iran will realize that this approach will never help them achieve their objectives. 
Tehran and Washington experienced the highest level of tensions in their relations under US President Donald Trump. The future state of ties will be governed by the outcome of the presidential elections.
