The deputy defense minister has said economic sanctions against Iran have not affected the country’s defense capabilities.
Brigadier General Amir Hatami made the remarks in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, just ahead of Sacred Defense Week.
He said Iran is able to design and manufacture the pieces of military hardware it needs to defend itself.
“We produce everything we need in the area of defense and our capabilities are not affected by any sanctions or constraints,” the Fars news agency quoted him as saying.
In addition, he announced that new defense achievements will be unveiled during Sacred Defense Week.
In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.
Sacred Defense Week begins on Shahrivar 31 in the Iranian calendar (September 22), which is the day Iraq invaded Iran and began the imposed war on the country in 1980.
