Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami expressed Iran’s willingness to become a strategic partner of Iraq and make a successful example of bilateral cooperation.
He made the statement in a video call with his new Iraqi counterpart, Juma Anad Saadoun, after congratulating him over his appointment, IRNA reported.
“We are willing to share all our capacities with Iraq and become strategic partners and make a successful example of our cooperation,” he said, stressing the need to expand bilateral defensive cooperation.
Hatami expressed satisfaction that a government has been formed in Iraq as per popular demand and represents the interests of all ethnic groups and religions.
“A sovereign, independent and powerful Iraq with the participation of all ethnicities and regions is our principle policy,” he said.
He hoped that the new Iraqi government would fulfill its duties, especially in meeting public demands, improving economic conditions and controlling the coronavirus pandemic.
Former Iraqi prime minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, resigned after massive public protests in November.
The new premier Mustafa al-Kadhimi got his Cabinet approved last week.
