Iran's ambassador in Baghdad rejected American claims about the Islamic Republic's interference in the domestic affairs of its Arab neighbor, stressing that Iraq is an independent country.
"The United States' Assistant Secretary of State David Schenker has once again accused Iran of meddling in Iraqi affairs. I announce that Iraq is an independent country and needs nobody's intervention," Iraj Masjedi tweeted.
Schenker has alleged in a recent interview with Al Arabiya Television that Iran sends military enforcers to "tell Iraqis what to do".
He also said that the US did not want Iraq "to be a vassal to Iran", and neither do "the overwhelming majority of Iraqis who want Iraq to be sovereign".
"Instead of such lies, the US had better end its policies that are centered on threat, sanction and assassination," Masjedi also wrote on Twitter.
