President Hassan Rouhani and the Qatari emir highlighted the need for all countries to promote collaborative efforts to ensure regional security and discussed the two countries’ measures toward this end.
In a phone conversation on Saturday, they described Tehran-Doha relations as “positive” and “developing”, stressing the importance of strengthening ties in all sectors, President.ir reported.
Rouhani pointed to the United States’ recent provocations in the region, saying Iran is keeping close watch on its activities.
“Iran is carefully monitoring and following the Americans’ provocative activities, but will not be the initiator of any conflict or tension in the region,” he said.
The US naval forces in the Persian Gulf came into contact with Iranian ships patrolling the Persian Gulf when approaching Iranian waters.
President Donald Trump later accused Iran of causing disturbance for American warships, ordering them to shoot down and destroy Iranian gunboats in case of harassment.
Iran said this is an issue of national interest and Iran will react strongly to any aggression within its territories.
In the phone conversation, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also underlined the need for all countries to avoid any tension in the Persian Gulf.
