    Flood Alert

Flood alert has been raised in several cities and villages in western and central Iran as a heavy rain system, which entered the country from the west on Monday, is drenching communities along its path to the east.

In Lorestan Province, the hotspot of recent devastating floods, special measures, including evacuations of residents and construction of embankments, were taken to mitigate the impact of the downpour.

The Khorramroud river, which bisects the provincial capital, Khorramabad, has swelled since Tuesday morning and officials predicted that it would burst its banks by midnight. People there were seen setting up barriers to protect their homes and properties from the roaring floodwater.

Catastrophic flooding last year left a trail of devastation in western and southwestern Iran and inflicted huge financial damage, particularly on the most underprivileged communities.
