Afghan FM Congratulated on Parliament Approval
In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani for receiving a confirmation vote from Afghanistan's National Assembly.
In a separate message to the new Afghan foreign minister on Wednesday, he had expressed hope that increased ties between Iran and Afghanistan at bilateral, regional and international levels would guarantee the interests of both states and help enhance security and stability in the region.
The foreign ministry also issued a statement on Wednesday welcoming votes of approval by Afghanistan's parliament to some cabinet members.
According to ISNA, the statement read, "The Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign ministry regards the Afghan parliament's move to give votes of confidence to some proposed cabinet members by the Afghan administration as a step forward in line with the formation of the national unity government."
The ministry extends congratulations to the ministers approved by the National Assembly and expresses its readiness to expand brotherly ties with the national unity government and is hopeful that with prompt completion of the Afghan cabinet efforts to promote bilateral constructive cooperation between the two countries would come to fruition, it added.
