Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met Oman's new sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Muscat on Sunday and discussed issues of mutual interest.
He had earlier attended the commemoration ceremony of the late Omani ruler, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, IRNA reported.
In the meeting, Zarif offered his condolences to the new king over the death of Sultan Qaboos and expressed Iran's readiness to expand long-standing relations between the two neighbors.
Oman's Sultan Qaboos died on Friday and his cousin Haitham bin Tariq was named as his successor in a smooth transition.
Considered as the father of modern Oman, Sultan Qaboos had acted as a regional mediator.
The new ruler on Saturday promised to continue the path of his predecessor and maintain the Arab country's foreign policy which, he said, was built on peaceful coexistence and maintaining friendly ties with all nations.
