Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Oman on Monday to pursue regular bilateral consultations.
Zarif had earlier held talks with Oman's Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi in Tehran in early December and discussed regional and international issues as well as mutual ties, IRNA reported.
Bin Alawi proposed in that meeting the launch of a broad conference attended by all regional countries to help alleviate the critical situation of the region by promoting better dialogue and understanding among its nations.
The visiting Omani diplomat also held talks with President Hassan Rouhani about a range of subjects, including Iran's Hormuz Peace Endeavor, which both sides stressed would be beneficial for the whole region.
The plan, introduced by Rouhani during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September, invites regional countries as well as the UN to work together to promote peace in the Middle East.
