Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday granted his approval to recommendations made by Iran’s top security official regarding the cases of people killed or injured during the recent violent unrest that erupted after the government announced a sharp rise in gasoline price.
In response to a report by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, the Leader said, “[The recommendations set out in the report] should be implemented promptly and the people [whose cases are still inconclusive] must be treated in a manner that is closer to Islamic clemency,” Tasnim News Agency reported.
Shamkhani had drawn up the report after the Leader ordered him to thoroughly examine the reasons behind the outbreak of the unrest and to address the situation of the victims and their families.
The national security council had also proposed that ordinary citizens killed in the clashes without playing any role in the protests or riots be declared “martyrs” and enjoy the relevant entitlements.
Moreover, it had suggested the payment of compensation to placate the families of victims killed in the protests.
