Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan sounded optimistic about a possible improvement in Washington-Tehran ties that have been currently at the lowest ebb after US President Donald Trump announced withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal followed by the reimposition of tougher sanctions.
The prime minister, in an interview with CNN on Tuesday, said during his visit to New York, Trump asked him “that you should try and go between Iran and the United States”, the Express Tribune reported.
During his recent visit to Iran, he also spoke to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani about the US offer.
Khan said the situation was evolving and he would not go into details at the moment.
“Let’s see if it gets anywhere,” he said. “I did not go into too much detail until there is a response from both sides.”
Khan also admitted that relations between the two countries were complicated, but he expressed optimism that there was a realization on both sides.
