An advisor to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to visit Tehran later this week to pursue Tokyo's initiative of reducing tensions in the Middle East and helping settle the conflict between Iran and the United States.
The trip is in line with consultations between Abe and President Hassan Rouhani both in Tehran and on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly last month, ISNA reported.
The advisor, who was not named by ISNA, is likely to arrive on Wednesday and will meet a number of Foreign Ministry officials.
The US exit from the 2015 nuclear deal last year and its reimposition of sanctions on Tehran has further deteriorated relations between the two arch foes. The tensions have also spilled over into the Middle East.
