A hacking group known by the name Lizard Squad which hacked the Malaysia Airlines’ website on Monday, claimed responsibility for taking down the websites of popular social networks, Facebook and Instagram.
The two websites were unavailable worldwide for approximately 40 minutes earlier on Tuesday prompting users to turn to Twitter to discuss the outage, Sputnik reported.
The Lizard Squad hackers are known for cyberattacks on Xbox and PlayStation systems in late December 2014.
The mobile versions of both sites were not available either. “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,” said a message on the Facebook site.
