China supports a meeting between members of Afghanistan’s and Pakistan’s governments and representatives of the Islamist Taliban movement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Tuesday, Itar Tass reported. “China is Afghanistan’s friendly neighbor and we are closely monitoring developments in that country,” Hong said, adding: “We support the Afghan reconciliation process and want to play a positive role.”
