A train dispatcher was detained on Tuesday after a passenger train hit a stationary freight train in southern Germany, killing two and injuring 14, police said. The crash late Monday happened close to a station in the town of Aichach. The passenger train was traveling from Augsburg to Ingolstadt. Its 37-year-old driver and a 73-year-old female passenger were killed, ABC reported.

Police said in a statement Tuesday that they believe human error caused the head-on collision, but did not elaborate. The 24-year-old dispatcher was detained on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.

Police said the driver of the freight train was uninjured. One of the injured was in a serious condition.
