Call for Urgent Action Against America’s Quds Decision

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounced as “provocative and dangerous” the US decision to recognize Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the Israeli regime’s capital, calling for concerted action by Muslim and peace-loving nations to defy such an illegal measure.
In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday, President Rouhani said all Muslim countries should join hands and stand against “the wrong, illegal, provocative and very dangerous” move of the US to recognize Quds as the Zionist regime’s capital.
He also hailed the Turkish president’s initiative to hold an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul to discuss the Palestinian issue, saying Iran has accepted the invitation to attend the summit, Tasnim News Agency reported.
While the region requires stability and security, such illegal moves of the US and Israel could push “the Palestinian state and the whole region” toward instability, Rouhani added.
For his part, the Turkish president said US President Donald Trump’s worrying decision results from internal rifts in the Muslim world, stressing that Muslim countries should stand united against the US move that is in violation of human rights and of all UN decisions about the status of Quds.
Turkey plans to host an extraordinary OIC meeting to discuss the status of Quds. A spokesman for the Turkish government told reporters in Ankara on Wednesday that the meeting will give an opportunity to Muslim leaders to act together and coordinate their response to Trump’s expected recognition of Quds as Israel’s capital.
