Necessity of Maintaining Iraqi Unity

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Monday stressed the necessity of maintaining the unity of Iraq. The AL chief made the remarks during a meeting with the permanent representative of Iraq to the Arab League Habib al Sadr, Xinhua reported. Sadr affirmed Iraq’s commitment to backing the activities of the AL, in light of the current financial crisis facing the pan Arab body. He briefed the AL chief on the latest developments in Iraq, concerning the operation to liberate al Mosul as well as the referendum to be held in Kurdistan. Iraq’s anti-terror efforts and measures were also highlighted by Sadr. Abul Gheit, meanwhile, congratulated the Iraqi representative on the liberation of the Mosul city, spokesman for the AL chief, Mahmoud Afify, said. The AL chief reiterated his full support for efforts exerted by Iraq and its army to uproot self-styled Islamic state terrorists.
