British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson praised the nuclear accord between Iran and major powers as a "historic diplomatic achievement" in a statement on Friday.

Friday marked the second anniversary of the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between Iran and the US, the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and the EU.

Johnson reaffirmed Britain's position that the JCPOA be fully and rigorously implemented, according to a transcript of the statement posted on Gov.uk.

Johnson said, "The Iran nuclear deal has helped to make the world a safer place by imposing strict limits on Iran's nuclear program, in return for the lifting of sanctions. It's an example of what can be achieved when the international community works together."

Iran says its nuclear activities have never had military dimensions, stressing that the program is only meant for civilian applications.

"Britain will continue to join with the rest of the international community to ensure the implementation of the agreement is a success, and delivers real gains for global security and nuclear non-proliferation, along with tangible benefits for the Iranian people," the top British diplomat said.
