Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states and China show interest in creating an organization of Eurasian partnership, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday.

Welcoming the participants of the First Congress of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly in Moscow, Lavrov said development of Eurasian integration and promotion of Eurasian Economic Union foreign relations are Russia’s unconditional foreign policy priority, Daily Sabah reported.

“[Russian] President Vladimir Putin’s initiative to organize large Eurasian partnership aims to develop booming and sustainable development of our continent. We see it as an opportunity to create a new economic space from the Atlantic to the Pacific,” Lavrov said.

According to the Russian foreign minister, the idea is “actively” supported by the governments of China and ASEAN states.

Lavrov also expressed his belief that the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly congress “will facilitate development of trust and mutual understanding between Eurasian peoples, promotion of inter-state relations, good neighborhood, and mutual cooperation”.
