Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial meeting on Thursday, according to a Russian news service.
Sputnik International reported Wang and Lavrov signaled interest in restarting efforts to launch North Korea nuclear talks, a possible allusion to the six-party talks on denuclearization.
Beijing's Foreign Ministry confirmed the two diplomats agreed to "strengthen cooperation on the [North Korea] issue" for the sake of regional stability. China has condemned Pyongyang's recent test of a mid-range ballistic missile.
Wang and Lavrov agreed to strengthen cooperation with countries in the association of five major emerging economies known as BRICS that include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Lavrov also met with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson behind closed doors.
