An intense wave of cold has hit North America, Europe and East Asian countries, including India, leaving behind a trail of death.

The cold wave has disrupted normal life but it earned widespread news coverage, especially since it has worsened the conditions for Europe’s refugees as temperatures plummeted.

The cold snap gripping Europe has left dozens of people dead, including refugees in Bulgaria, AFP reported.

Snow blanketed the Moria Refugee Camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, home to more than 4,000 people, on Friday.

Roland Schoenbauer, a spokesman for the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), told CNN on Monday that the organization has transferred some 120 vulnerable men, women and children, including people still living in tents, to hotels following the storm.
