The German-based Gerda Henkel Foundation has selected Iran, along with Uganda and Russia, as one of the recipients of this year’s research grants.

Established in 1976 in Dusseldorf, the foundation provides grants every year to projects in the field of humanities. This year, they have set aside a total of €5 million ($5.3 million) for research projects but it is unclear how much Iran is set to receive.

According to a statement published on the foundation’s website, the grant will be used to fund cultural heritage studies in Yazd Province, especially in the provincial capital Yazd, “where cultural heritage is not very well studied.”

The grant will also be used to help the National Museum of Iran document its collection of Islamic art, said to be about 15,000 objects, in an effort to set up a database.
