Egyptian officials said on Saturday at least 16 people, most of them students, were killed in a car crash involving their bus, a fuel tanker and two other vehicles on a highway north of Cairo.
A security official said the accident took place on Wednesday morning in the northern Delta province of Beheira,Reuters reported
The official said it was raining and the bus hit a hole in the road, causing the fuel truck to rear-end it and igniting a fire. A private car and a trailer subsequently crashed into the two.
A family of three was also among the dead, according to officials. Eighteen people were reported injured.
Egypt’s roads and railroads have a poor safety record and Egyptians have long complained that governments have failed to enforce basic safeguards.
