Lebanon’s Hezbollah condemned a suicide attack on Friday on a Shiite Muslim mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia which killed at least 21 people and injured more than 80.

“Hezbollah holds the Saudi authorities fully responsible for this ugly crime, for its embrace and sponsorship for these criminal murderers ... to carry out similar crimes in other Arab and Muslim countries,” the group said in a statement, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State militant group said it was behind the suicide bombing of Imam Ali Mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh, in Qatif Governorate during Friday prayers.

The attack in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province is the first to be claimed by the Saudi branch of IS, which was formally established last November.

The claim was posted on Twitter with an image of the bomber by an account that is a reliable source on the group. IS had previously threatened to attack Shiite Muslims in Saudi Arabia.
