Saudi Arabia has arrested 93 people suspected of belonging to the Islamic State militant group, including at least 65 Saudi nationals, the interior ministry said in a statement carried on the official Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Interior ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki said a cell of 65 people arrested in March who were involved in a plan that included targeting residential compounds, prisons and security forces.
He said authorities also disrupted a plot for a suicide car bomber to attack the US Embassy in Riyadh after receiving information about the plan in mid-March.
US officials halted all consular services for a week starting March 15 at the embassy and two other diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia over security fears.
