Afghan Parliament Approves 16 More Cabinet Nominees

Afghanistan's parliament has approved 16 Cabinet nominees after months of delays.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the parliament's lower house, said Saturday that the decision now means the 25-member Cabinet of President Ashraf Ghani is nearly complete. There still hasn't been a defense minister approved by parliament as Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah have disagreed on who to nominate for the position, AP reported.

The lack of ministers has caused problems throughout Ghani's government, slowing its work and upsetting many in the country. There are four women are among the newly appointed ministers, including Farida Momand at the Higher Education Ministry, Nasreen Oryakhil at the country's Labor Ministry, Dilbar Nazari at the Women's Affairs Ministry and Salamat Azimi at the Counter-Narcotics Ministry.
