Crimea, Sakhalin Ink Deal

Russia’s far eastern Sakhalin regional government and the Council of Ministers of the Russian Republic of Crimea have concluded an agreement on trade and economic, scientific-technical and cultural co-operation, the spokesman for the Sakhalin region’s governor told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
The deal was signed in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, where the International Investment Forum was being held on these days, Aleksey Bayandin said.
“Sakhalin region and the Republic of Crimea have good prospects for cooperation. This concerns fishing, oceanography and continental shelf development. The Republic of Crimea has broad possibilities for vacations and recuperation courses for Sakhalin residents,” Bayandin said.
Meanwhile, Sakhalin region and the Republic of Crimea are linked with the issue of preserving famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov’s heritage. “Several spectacular events linked with Chekhov are planned in 2015 in order to allow residents of the two regions to learn more about the creative activity of the great Russian writer.
