Late frost has inflicted damages amounting to 4 trillion rials ($28.77 million) on North Khorasan Province’s crops.
“Around 3.84 trillion rials ($27.6 million) of the total damages pertain to orchards and the remaining 160 billion rials ($1.15 million) to farms. Vineyards and walnut orchards were the hardest hit,” Abdollah Yousefi, the head of North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization, was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Located in Iran's northeast, North Khorasan has 344,000 hectares of farmlands and orchards, which produce over 1.5 million tons of agricultural output every year.
According to Yousefi, only 34,786 hectares of these lands have been insured.
