Nature Day Celebrated

Iranians celebrated National Nature Day on April 2 by picnicking and spending time outdoors with their families.

Locally known as “Sizdah Bedar”, the national day is held annually on the 13th day of Farvardin, the first month of the Iranian year, to mark the end of Norouz holidays.

The traditional ritual is aimed at promoting mankind’s friendship with nature.

However, the merrymaking in nature often causes damage to the environment from harming trees and causing forest fires to polluting rivers and leaving loads of rubbish out in the countryside or urban parks.

Therefore, officials and environmentalists had been calling on the public to take precaution during the festival to prevent any damage to the country’s vulnerable environment.

Journals and websites have been publishing lists of dos and don’ts to raise awareness about the threats caused by man on this day.
