The police seized 25 off-road vehicles during a crackdown on rallies early this week in Sohanak, a northeastern village of Tehran, the head of Protection Unit at Forest, Range and Watershed Management Organization said.

Jalil Anzabizadeh added that the cars will be placed in the impoundment lot and the owners will be referred to judicial authorities, Mehr News Agency reported.

"Off-road vehicles are banned from entering the area and other natural environments of Tehran to protect green spaces," he said.

The official claimed that such rallies endanger the flora and fauna of the region.

Anzabizadeh proposed the establishment of a committee tasked with organizing off-road matches.

"The committee could comprise representatives from Motorcycle and Automobile Federation, the Department of Environment, FRWMO, Tehran Municipality and other relevant administrations," he added.

This is not the first time that heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering natural environments, as in November 2017, two-differential and off-road cars were banned from entering Maranjab Desert in Isfahan Province, based on the verdict of judicial authorities.
