The 4.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred 50 km west of Tehran in the early hours of Wednesday left one person dead of heart attack and at least 56 people injured. According to Iran's Emergency Medical Services, most of the injured were slightly hurt while trying to run out of buildings and were soon released from hospital after treatment, IRNA reported. The quake was an aftershock of a 5.2 magnitude quake on Dec. 20 that killed two people. When felt in Tehran, Alborz, and parts of Qazvin and Qom provinces, the quake drove many residents outside to take refuge in cars or other buildings repurposed into rescue centers. Iran sits on several major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
