The Department of Environment, Iranian Armed Forces Aviation Industries Organization and the Presidential Office’s Science and Technology Department have signed a wide-ranging memorandum of understanding aimed at protecting the environment.

DOE chief, Massoumeh Ebtekar, head of IAFAIO, Manouchehr Manteqi and vice president of science and technology, Sourena Sattari, signed the agreement, IRNA reported.

“Based on the deal, aerial monitoring of DOE-protected regions will be carried out on a regular basis using aircraft provided by IAFAIO,” said Ali Teymouri, a deputy at DOE.

He said aerial monitoring will be used to identify sources of environmental pollutants and monitor industrial facilities.

Teymouri said the agreement will help fight poaching and collect census on wildlife populations, as well as spot wildfires.

“Data on water resources and vegetation will be collected, which can help devise conservation programs,” he said.
