The Department of Environment in Lorestan Province has made the restoration of Gori Balmak wetland a priority, according to the Governor of Pol-e Dokhtar Country Ghodratollah Torabinejad. People of Lorestan as well the province’s officials all want the wetland to be revived, Fars News quoted Torabinejad as saying. “To that end, the governorate will purchase every piece of land surrounding the wetland to initiate the restoration process,” he announced. Gori Balmak is Lorestan’s largest wetland. Much like other wetlands in Iran, Gori Balmak is in danger of complete desiccation, mainly due to unsustainable agricultural practices.
