Environmental Project in Lorestan

To help protect the environment, the evaporation lagoon and API oil-water separator of Sarkan/Malehkouh oil center in Lorestan Province was launched at the weekend, managing director of West Oil and Gas Production Company said.

“The project was implemented in 12 months. It is an important step toward safeguarding the environment,” the National Iranian Oil Company website quoted Saeed Nasseripour as saying.

It collects wastewater and contaminated oil in the region. The lagoon was built based on international standards with a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters.

Lagoons are pond-like bodies of water or basins designed to receive, hold, and treat wastewater for a predetermined period. If necessary, they are lined with material, such as clay or artificial liners to prevent leaks to the groundwater below. The volume of wastewater may be reduced by evaporation from the water surface.

An API oil–water separator is a device designed to separate gross amounts of oil and suspended solids from the wastewater effluents of oil refineries, petrochemical plants, chemical plants, natural gas processing plants and other industrial oily water sources. The name is derived from the fact that such separators are designed according to standards published by the American Petroleum Institute.

Sarkan/MalehKooh oil center is located 15km away from Poldakhtar City in Lorestan. The extracted oil is processed and transferred through 52km of pipeline to Kermanshah Refinery.

West Oil and Gas Production Company is one of three subsidiaries of Iranian Central Oil Fields Company. It started work in 1999 by producing, processing and delivery crude oil. This company covers Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan and Khuzestan provinces.
