MOTs Reduce CO2 Emissions in Khuzestan

Skid-mounted processing units also known as mobile oil treaters are processing close to 28,000 barrels of oil per day in South Azadegan Oilfield in Khuzestan Province.

With the help of mobile oil treaters, Karoun Oil and Gas Production Company—a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Company—has prevented 32,000 barrels of oil from being burnt during extraction, Shana added.

"Such equipment helps protect the environment by reducing emissions of carbon dioxide during extraction and processing," Mohsen Dahanzadeh, managing director of KOGPC said.

According to Dahanzadeh, the company has extracted close to 1.4 million barrels of oil, worth $40 million over the past 12 months, of which 32,000 barrels would have been wasted were it not for the MOTs positioned on well heads.

"Half of KOGPC output goes to Abadan and Tehran refineries, and the balance to Kharg Island terminal for export. The company provides Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini petrochemical plants with feedstock," he said.

KOGPC is responsible for seven exploitation units, seven desalination units in Asmari and Bangestan reservoirs plus 10 gas boosting pressure stations. It also manages three gas and liquefied petroleum gas plants, a gas sweetening refinery, one crude oil pump station and two MOTs.

MOT is a system for eliminating acid, gas, water, salt, sand and silt from crude oil and injecting it into the pipeline during drilling, repairing, acidizing and testing oil wells.

The equipment, which includes pump station, separation, injection and desalting units, also can be utilized for different oil wells with various oil properties.
