Work in Progress at Iran's South Azadegan Oilfield

Raising production from the South Azadegan Oilfield in Khuzestan Province with the help of skid-mounted processing units and mobile oil treaters is a priority of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC).

“Thirty five wells are either being drilled or repaired in the field on which the processing equipment will be installed by March,” Touraj Dehqani, the PEDEC boss, told Shana.

When the wells start producing, the field's output will rise by 50,000 barrels per day.

"PEDEC, a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company, has increased the field's output from 30,000 bpd to 100,000 bpd over the last two years," he said, noting that this level would reach 150,000 bpd by the end of the current fiscal in March.

The company also plans to install submersible pumps in the North Yaran oil wells in West Karoun and continue development activities at Azar Oilfield in western Ilam Province, Dehqani added.

West Karoun is the name of an oil-rich region in Khuzestan that includes several large oilfields, including Azadegan, Yaran and Yadavaran, with the first two divided into northern and southern projects.

According to published reports, Iran is currently drawing crude from the block at an unacceptable extraction rate of 5-6%.

The official said Iran produces 350,000 barrels of oil per day from the block.

PEDEC started crude extraction from South Yaran Oilfield last year while working on development plans such as building storage tanks at Goureh and Omidiyeh oil terminals in Bushehr and Khuzestan provinces.
