Iran's South Pars Gas Field Phases 22-24 Production Up

The third gas sweetening train of the onshore refinery of South Pars Gas Field's phases 22-24 in the Persian Gulf has been launched, the operator of the phases said.

“It has added 8 million cubic meters of gas on a daily basis to the previous capacity of 28 mcm per day produced by the first two sweetening trains. Sour gas is supplied to the unit from phases 6, 7, and 8 of the field,” the Oil Ministry's news service Shana quoted Farhad Izadjou as saying.

“Once fully operational, the train will be able to process 14 mcm/d of sour gas, which will be injected into the national grid,” he added.

The fourth sweetening train will go on stream by February.

Phases 22-24 should produce 56 million cubic meters of natural gas, 50 mcm of methane, 2,900 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, 2,750 tons of ethane, 75,000 barrels of gas condensates, and 400 tons of sulfur on a daily basis.

South Pars is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. Iran is developing the mega gas project in 24 phases.

More than $72 billion has been spent on the giant energy venture since work started and investments are forecast to rise to $87 billion.
