The National Iranian Drilling Company has drilled 88 onshore and offshore wells over the last seven months, the company’s deputy managing director said.
"By employing 70 offshore and onshore rigs, NIDC has drilled over 111,625 meters of oil and gas wells nationwide," Hamidreza Khoshayand was quoted as saying by Shana, the Oil Ministry news portal.
Of the total, 88 were development and exploratory wells and 50 underwent repairs.
"The wells were drilled in oilfields managed by the National Iranian South Oil Company, the Iranian Offshore Oil Company as well as the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company in West Karoun oil block that includes several large oilfields straddling the Iran-Iraq border, namely Yaran, Yadavaran and Darkhoein," Khoshayand said.
He noted that Fat'h-32 and 33 drilling rigs were deployed to Fars Province for drilling in exploratory wells.
"The state-run company utilizes modern drilling methods in addition to complying with health, safety and environment regulations," he said.
NIDC was founded in 1979 and operates as a subsidiary of NIOC. It engages in the exploration, development and delineation drilling of oil and gas wells, especially in joint oilfields, namely South Azadegan, 80 kilometers west of Ahvaz in Khuzestan along the Iraq border, Azar in Ilam Province as well as South Pars, the world's largest gas field shared between Iran and Qatar off the Persian Gulf.
NIDC is in charge of offshore and onshore drilling. It provides almost all the drilling services needed by domestic energy companies.
