Domestic Firms Sign Sulphur Contracts

Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery in Sarakhs County signed an agreement with Khorasan Razavi Agriculture Jihad to provide 100,000 tons of sulphur per annum for farming purposes.

Mojtaba Monbeti, the gas refinery's managing director made the announcement on the sidelines of the signing ceremony in Mashhad attended by Mojtaba Mazrouei, head of the provincial Agriculture Jihad on Saturday, Shana reported.

"The company, which is the largest domestic producer of sulfur, has raised its output by 10,000 tons to reach 600,000 tons since March," Monbeti said.

The gas refinery bought 10 billion cubic meters of sour gas from Khangiran Gas Field in Khorasan Razavi Province over the past seven months, which is 50 million cubic meters more than the volume it took last year in the corresponding period.

Monbeti noted that although sulfur is the base raw material to produce commodities like sulfuric acid and fertilizers, the company needs to make concerted efforts to increase the manufacture of value-added products from sulfur.

"Contracts have been signed with foreign firms to convert sulphur into more value-added products," he said without elaboration.

Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Processing Company supplies natural gas to several provinces, namely North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Golestan, Mazandaran and  parts of Semnan.

According to Mazrouei, sulphur — an essential plant nutrient — is used as fertilizer not only to help improve the quality of farming land but also improve soil nutrient content.
