The first 20,000 ton methanol consignment produced by Marjan Petrochemical Company in the southern city of Asalouyeh in Bushehr Province was shipped from Pars Special Economic Energy Zone on the Persian Gulf coast on Monday.
According to NIPNA, the National Petrochemical Company’s news agency, Marjan Company, which was inaugurated in September, sent its first methanol cargo to international markets. Details were not available.
Marjan Company - aka 7th Methanol Project - in Phase 2 of South Pars in Asalouyeh has a production capacity of 1.6 million tons of methanol per year.
The complex construction started in 2011and it was built at a total cost of $914 million. Its annual feedstock is about 5.1 million cubic meters of natural gas supplied by Damavand Petrochemical Company, in addition to electricity and oxygen.
With the recently launched petrochemical complexes, including Marjan, Kharg, Fanavaran and Zagros, Iran produces 6.65 million tons of methanol per year, of which 400,000 tons are exported.
NPC says it is working to double overall production before 2020. Six more methanol projects currently underway will be operational within in two years and add 12 million tons to the total annual producti
