South Pars Gas Complex accounts for more than 71% of Iran’s total gas production, the managing director of South Pars Gas Complex said.
“Close to 650,000 barrels of gas condensate per day is supplied to the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in Hormozgan Province and Nuri Petrochemical Complex in southern Bushehr Province as feedstock,” Hadi Hashemzadeh Farhang was quoted as saying by ILNA.
According to Hashemzadeh, data pertaining to the first quarter of the present fiscal that began in March, show a rise in the output of byproducts, namely ethane (42%), gas condensates (5%), liquefied petroleum gas (35%) and sulfur (35%), compared to the corresponding period last year.
The complex accounts for 61%, 100% and 97% of the country's total output of sulfur, ethane and LPG respectively. It also produces 99% of gas condensates.
"Three gas refineries of South Pars Gas Field in Bushehr Province will come on stream by next March," he said, adding that 13 natural gas processing units were developing at the site, of which 10 have been completed and the three remaining plants have made 90% progress.
Refineries of phases 20-21, 17-18 and 19 were launched in the last two years.
Hashemzadeh said domestic manufacturers provide over 90% of equipment for the huge complex, including those used in electrical and mechanical infrastructure, for refinery overhaul and in producing chemical products like industrial oils and catalysts.
South Pars, the world's largest gas field and shared between Iran and Qatar, is being developed in 24 phases.
