NISOC Completes 120 Ventures

The National Iranian South Oil Company, a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Company, has made 120 industrial and civil construction projects operational in the past 12 months, an official at the state-owned company said.

“The projects include building infrastructure such as oil desalination units, pipelines and wellhead facilities, green spaces and environmental protection, roads and medical centers in Khuzestan Province,” Shapour Hatampour was also quoted as saying by NIOC’s website on Wednesday.

Referring to the eight desalination plans developed in the period, Hatampour added that NISOC has built two desalination units and three others in Ahvaz Oilfield, which accommodates five complexes, in the southern oil-rich Khuzestan Province.

"Other desalination units have been built in Bibi-Hakimeh, Gachsaran, Haftgel/Naft Sefid, Maroun and Rag Sefid oilfields," he said.

According to the official, NISOC has 165 projects under construction, which include building gas collection and injection stations in Haftgel, Qalehnar and Lab Sefid oilfields in Khuzestan, constructing a desalination unit in Qalehnar, renovating a pumping station in Goureh Oil Terminal in Bushehr Province and installing a new one at the site.

Hatampour stressed that the company is also involved in civil construction projects such as building Masjed Soleiman-Izeh and Omidiyeh-Jayezan roads, both located in Khuzestan, and establishing a 64-bed hospital in the city of Gachsaran in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province.

NISOC signed two contracts, worth $1.2 billion, last week with two domestic companies on preventing the flaring of associated petroleum gases from oilfields in the east Karoun region, Khuzestan Province, Shana reported.

Based on the contracts, Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company and Marun Petrochemical Company will implement 32 plans to renovate and upgrade NISOC’s installations for flare gas collection in the next two and a half years, which will save 22 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

According to a World Bank report, a great deal of gas is flared at oil production sites across the world, burning approximately 140 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually and releasing more than 300 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Around 17 billion cubic meters of gas are burned off in Iran annually, which means a $4-6 billion loss for the country, according to published reports.
