The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company has launched six portable fuel stations on the crowded roads of northern Iran where demand for gasoline is very high.
According to Mohammad Reza Mousavikhah, a deputy at NIOPDC, two stations have been established on the long, winding road that connects Karaj in Alborz Province to Chalous. Two others are located in the vicinity of Kandovan Tunnel on the same road and the remaining two are installed at Namak Abroud along the Caspian Sea highway, Shana reported.
The official noted that temporary portable gasoline fillers have been installed to meet the insatiable demand of summer holidaymakers, as conventional fuel stations on the high-traffic roads have been deluged by high demand.
He added that portable fuel stations have been developed to operate anywhere and under all conditions.
"The tanks have different specifications. Their storage capacities range from 800 liters to 12,000 and 24,000 liters," Mousavikhah said.
"The stations will be running by the summer end."
Although portable fuel stations are currently regarded as a "temporary alternative" to conventional fuel stations, the idea of using them as a permanent alternative is promising, due to the attractive cost-benefit ratio compared with the conventional fuel station.
Portable fuel stations are a promising alternative to conventional fuel stations that are not only more expensive but also take more time and space to construct.
Space is not a constraint for a "mobile fuel station", as it can be moved either in a trailer or shipped to any desired location, in addition to easy installation.
With low maintenance costs, wide industry applications, high flexibility and low prices, portable fuel stations could find many takers, especially as these stations can also be expanded, based on rising fuel demand and ground conditions.
