Gasoline consumption in the fourth Iranian month that ended on July 21 reached an unprecedented average of 91.7 million liters per day, data released by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company show.  

The figure indicates an 8.5% increase compared with the corresponding figure of last year (84.6 ml/d), Shana reported.

Domestic consumption of the fuel hit 121.8 million liters on July 21, the highest level in a single day so far this year.

Iranians burnt as much as 89.4 ml/d of gasoline between May 22 and June 22.

The country’s use of the fuel so far this year (March 21- July 23) averaged 86.8 million liters per day, indicating a 9.6% hike compared with that of last year (78.5 ml/d).

This is while the country's gasoline output roughly reaches 70 million liters per day.

According to Alireza Rajabpour, NIOPDC's deputy for exports and imports, gasoline consumption is expected to witness a sharp rise, as more people will go on summer holiday trips.

The data also reveal a hike in diesel consumption. Some 73 million liters of diesel have been consumed daily on average during the 30-day June-July period, showing an 8.7% year-on-year jump as diesel consumption amounted to 67.2 million liters in the previous year's corresponding period.

This is while an average of 68.8 million liters of diesel have been burnt daily since March 21, indicating a 6.1% rise YOY.
